-Who are you?
Oh hey. I’m David Whitfield, (aka Davidian).

-Why do you make Music and what does it mean for you?
I study music at university, so I get to surround myself with it constantly. I make music because music is the best thing there is. I can’t remember a time in my life when I wanted to do anything else.

-Where and when did you start learn to play ?
I played piano from about 6 years old, then when I was 10 I watched a band play in my school hall and was obsessed with learning guitar from there. I got into the electronic side of music about 5 years ago as I started college.

-What's your favourite artist and song?
Ooooh, this is so hard to pin down! Well, my favourite artist ever will always be Stevie Wonder. My favourite song at the moment is probably Pyramid Lake - Airhead. Definitely check it out! Amazing samples.

-What genres and artists did influence your music?
I guess my main genre influences are post-dubstep mixed with ambient house, with a bit of jazz thrown in. I take a lot of inspiration from artists such as James Blake, The XX, Shlohmo and Mount Kimbie.

-How much the live element matters in your Music?
I’ve not yet played a live set myself as Davidian, but I’m desperate to get into it this year when I move to a bigger city. I used to play live with bands and I really miss it. Seeing artists perform is such a different experience to listening at home. Especially when they mix it up a bit!

-What do you think about Music industry nowdays?
Rife with untalented, women-beating, auto-tuning piss kidneys.

-What is the message that you'd like to express at the people Who listen to your Music?
I’m not sure really! I'd certainly like to express something different. Though it's hard to explain what! I’m gonna say I leave it open to interpretation (I can’t think of a good message)

-Who do you think are the most relevant musicians nowadays?
The ones innovating and experimenting with different styles. Musicians and bands like Flying Lotus and BadBadNotGood are refreshing jazz in a great way. Flylo’s latest album is incredible (RIP Austin Peralta). Also excited to hear new things from Hudson Mohawke and TNGHT in 2013. I really hope trap hasn’t already been overdone.

-Let's talk about the new EP?
I’m releasing a 10 track album called Keepsake this March! I’m really excited to share it. It’s featuring my own vocals for the first time, pretty daunting stuff. Other than that it’s chilled. My mum said it’s good to listen to in the car, I don’t know what that means, I don’t think she does either.

My 002EP which I released in November is now available on Spotify!

-How would you define your sound?
The sounds Lenny Henry and Dawn French used to make in bed.

-Pc or Mac?
Mac!

-What is your favourite book and movie?
Favourite book is probably A Clockwork Orange. Totally messed up but a great read. Favourite movie is a toss up between Leon and This is England.

-How and where do you see yourself in ten years from now?
I don’t want to think about 10 years time, I’ll be 30! Definitely still making music in some form. Though it's also possible I'll be homeless.

-Beatles or Rolling Stones?
Beatles (Relentlessly ignoring Let It Be)
